SMOKE TESTING

smoke testing

Smoke Testing is utilized to detect structural damage that may be causing sewer gases to escape and create unpleasant odors. Non-toxic, odorless smoke is pushed into the sewer system in a controlled manner through a predetermined access point. When the smoke reaches the break in the pipe, it escapes, which allows us to determine exactly where the sewer gases are escaping into the building.

When to Schedule a Smoke Test

Call us for smoke testing when you smell sewer gas but cannot trace where it is coming from, when odors appear after a renovation, or when a musty smell keeps returning to a basement or bathroom. Keep in mind that not every foul odor is a sewer problem. Dried-out traps, poor plumbing installations, and trash issues can all mimic a sewer leak, and our test will tell you whether the sewer is really to blame. Pinpoint the Problem Without Demolition

Because the smoke escapes exactly where the system is compromised, we can mark the trouble spots without opening walls or digging up the yard on a guess. From there, a sewer video inspection shows us the damage from inside the pipe, and sewer line locating marks its exact position and depth so any repair is a surgical one.
